Supports the Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1200 V6/ V5 Product Family

Formerly known as Greenlow, this new generation of single socket server and workstation processors is based on the 14nm process technology but comes with the new Skylake microarchitecture.

Among the main features of this new product family is the adoption of the DDR4 memory technology within the Xeon E3 line of processors, which brings a significant memory speed and capacity boost over the previous generation (up to 64GB at 2133MHz). The other big new feature is the increase of the number and speed of PCIe lanes available from 8 Gen2 lanes to up to 20 Gen3 lanes, which allows much wider board configuration possibilities.

The Intel Xeon E3-1200 V5 product family is the first generation of Xeon E3 processors to support the DDR4 memory technology. Compared to DDR3, this new generation brings:

M.2 Slot Onboard

The MX31-BS0 comes equipped with an onboard M.2 slot, providing users PCI-Express connectivity for SSD devices. Delivering up to 10 Gb/s data transfer speeds, M.2 offers users considerably faster storage performance than current mSATA and even SATA Revision 3 (6Gb/s) storage devices.

The M.2 slot of this motherboard supports cards up to 80mm length and 20mm width, and the following specifications:

  • M.2 PCIe SSD Cards up to 10Gb/s
  • M.2 SATA SSD Cards up to 6Gb/s

Easy BIOS Update

Because updating your BIOS to a newer version can be a troublesome experience, GIGABYTE has developed this integrated function (no additional software to install) that lets you update the BIOS of your server / workstation motherboard(s):

  • Without having to install CPUs, memory, drives, operating system, etc.
  • Without having to power on the system (but a power supply must be connected)
  • One board at a time via our IPMI 2.0 web interface
  • Multiple boards simultaneously via command line

Dynamic Fan Speed Control

GIGABYTE servers are enabled with dynamic fan speed adjustment. Individual fan speed will be automatically adjusted according to the system’s current temperature (according to CPU, DIMM, M.2, HDD, GPU temperature sensors), to achieve the best cooling and power efficiency. When the BMC detects a temperature change, fan speed will be automatically adjusted accordingly. Fan speed profiles may also be manually created and edited* when necessary according to the user’s custom requirements.
